Be sure to add everyone to your Google Calendars so that we can all see what each other's doing.  Smiley  Here's the best set up I've seen so far that allows the most openness with specific points of privacy.  Basically, it will keep your calendar closed off from the InterWeb, let your friends see everything you're doing, and all you to hide the details of things you don't want your friends to see (like the dr's appt for that really nasty rash you picked up having gone out with one of Brock's girls).

  • Go to your calendar at http://www.google.com/calendar.
  • Click Settings in the upper right hand corner.
  • Click the tab Calendars.
  • In the section "My Calendars," click the name of the calendar whose settings you want to change.
  • Click the tab Share this calendar.
  • In the section "Share with everyone," select Do not share with everyone.
  • In the section "Share with specific people," add people and give access:
    • To add a new person:
      • Under "ADD A NEW PERSON," enter the email address.
      • Under "Has permission to," select See all event details.
    • To change permissions for an existing person:
      • Under "Has permission to," select See all event details.
  • Click Save.
  • For each event that you want to make private, do the following:
    • Create a new event or click on an existing event.
    • In the bottom right hand corner of the event, click Options.
    • In the section "Privacy," under "This event is," select Private.
    • In the section "Show me as," choose the following:
      • If you want to mark the time as busy, select Busy.
      • If you want to mark the time as free, select Available.

I've split Lee's instructions out to make them a little more prominent, and because I've got the following to add:

Software to sync Outlook and Google Calendar:  http://remotecalendars.sourceforge.net/

Step by step instructions to install the software and use it with Google:  http://www.grinn.net/blog/dev/2006/04/incorporate-google-calendar-into.html

Freaking. Awesome.

Adding Friends' Calendars

  • Go to the top right hand corner navigation and click on "Settings."
  • In the new page labeled "Calendar Settings," select the option Calendars.
  • Click the button Add Calendar.
  • In the new page labeled "Add Other Calendar," click Friends' Calendars.
  • Enter the email address and click Add.
  • You may need to request permission from the person as most of our calendars are set as private. Click Send Invite.
  • Repeat as necessary with each email address you have.

Yes, Napoleon is Leesa.

She had LeesaLogic registered.  Then she created a new account for Napoleon with the same email address.  Which apparently confused google calendar and converted all the pre-existing calendars she'd been granted access to over to her new Napoleon account.

Leesa asked if everyone could re-invite her regular email (LeesaLogic@aol.com).  Since her Napoleon account is not going to be her regular address/calendar.

Yeah, if you create a gmail account, no matter what it is, if you put in the info the same first and last name as the email account you used for google calendar, it thinks it's a replacement. I think I've fixed most of the fall out from that experience, so if you see Napoleon has access to view your calendar, remove it and give the access to leesalogic@aol.com.

Shilly Google!
