The Social Democratic Workers' Party suggests Russia House followed by a screening of Night Watch and Day Watch. http://www.russiahouserestaurant.com/

I never considered sun-dried tomatoes to be a Russian ingredient.

Warning: I have eaten at Russia House quite a few times alla my ex-GF who was a Russian studies major. I am not opposed to attending - in fact I was trying to get the Girlie to go there last week. *But* - don't get your expectations too high. It is very unique 'cause it is the only Russian joint worth anything in NoVA (Serbian Crown is close - but I really don't like them) - but it is honestly not that great - not bad, just not great. And it priced like it is great. It won't run anything close to what we paid at Inn - but it isn't too far off from a place like Olives of Kinkeads - and isn't half as good as either. Think Clydes+ or maybe 2941. Honestly is definitely not in the value dining category (and I am not saying is not cheap - Inn and Maestro I think are both excellent values).

Actually - how many of you have eaten at Ice House Cafe or Zeferelli's? Both are great places that aren't so hard on the bill fold - are decently upscale and fancy (Zeferelli's is a lot like El Manatial - 'cept I like it a little more) are in walking distance of my joint just like Russia House (though once again - not opposed to Russia House - I don't think it is great, but it is novel).

There's literally one thing at Ice House that Joc can eat. I haven't been to either Russia House or Zeffirelli.

Russia House seems reasonable, about $20-30 an entree, AND is Russian, thus fitting into the theme of a Russian evening. I've been to Zeffirelli's many times, it's perfectly adequate, albiet a trifle overpriced, Italian food. If you're looking for Italian, I'd suggest Fiore di Luna or Maggiano's instead. I'd be interested in hitting Olives sometime. Maestro looks great too, but I like to space out my $150+ meals.

Maybe I had less green when I ate there last and am overinflating in my head - but I remember thinking was pricey. Like I said - will still happily eat there in either case. And - uhm - Maggiano's is yummy in its own way (mostly in a "oh my god I need a wheel barrow for my bloated stomach" kind of way) - but I would definitely put Zeferelli's ahead of it - its probably my favorite local Italian joint - Maggiano's is a little chainey. For Fiore di Luna - is that the joint out by you (the house of the spicy cheese)?

Not counting caviar, the most expensive entree is $30 at Russia House. Fiore di Luna is in Great Falls.

Maybe Zeffirelli's is better for you meaty types. The vege stuff was just average. The place by my house is Rosemary Thyme Cafe. Fiore di Luna is much more awesome. http://www.fiorediluna.com/

Huh - never eaten there. Looks good - will have to give it a try.
And yeah - I usually get the fishy stuff when I am at Zeferelli's.

So I checked Google Calendar, and Friday 9/22 looks totally open. Does that date work for people for Russia House + Night/Day Watch?

Sorry - me and the Girlie are a no-go - we will be up in CT visiting my sis, followed by Jersey for Rosh Hasshanah that weekend. Have fun without us!
