Finished the book tonight - and read the errata.  Couple more gems:

1) PDS' cost *2* not *1* - according to the errata.  Big difference - but honestly, fair (though I think i would only buy them if I had DSCs)

2) Confirmed the Imperium ruiling - it explicitly says that if the game ends due to a card draw it precedes the 2 victory points - so beware if you take Imperium and you are not the number 1 player.

3) Warfare secondary - if you activate the warfare secondary, you *can* move cruisers/destroyers out of activated systems, and *can* move them into activated systems - so long as they be empty.

4) Nobody ever seems to retreat - so I thought I would clarify the rules, just in case that is why.  You announce a retreat at the beginning of any combat round, and it occurs at the end of said round - so you always have to fight for one round after the announcement.  You then move any ships you want to to an adjacent hex - but it has to be one that is already activated by you.  Naalu can retreat at the beginning of the round - they don't have a delay.

5) Jol Nar *do* still have to pay a command counter to participate in Tech phase - they just don't have to pay the 8 unless they want 2 techs instead of one.

6) You can use PDS' against someone that has used Diplomacy on you

7) PDS' can't fire through wormholes

8 ) Defender chooses pre-combat effects - so defender could decide that Assault Cannon Dreadnought shots happen before Destroyer pre-fighter barrages, for example.

Yeah - I know - it was in the Errata - if you read the rules they explictly state that you cannot activate a system that contains units of the opposing types.  It does *not* say that you cannot fire at units in a space that your opponent activated.  So..... - you still can't drop a command counter on his worlds and gun away, but if he is dumb enough to move into range of your DSC's blast away.

The rule about PDS' makes DSCs a lot more interesting. I would have had them all around that damned wormhole junction.

Agreed - although the pricing clairification makes me unlikely to ever purchase without first getting DSCs.  2 Resources is just not worth it without the ranged capabilities.

Yep... I have yet ever to buy PDS' without already having DSC already anyway... so I'm certainly not gonna now that they've doubled in price.
