So.....   apparently Sunday is looking kinda "eh" for TI for a couple of reasons: 1) is after a party (which seems to have mixed results; 2) Joce and Drew are having a movie pirate day then (and probably myself as well).  Any takers for Memorial Day instead?

Sounds like me, Joce, Shmoo (and I am guessing you).  Not sure what Kris' work schedule looks like or if Mark is going to be around - it would be awesome to have a full six players if we can swing it.

I think Kris and Pat are in if we start at 3.  How late can people go?

Wow, not that late.  I figured we'd be starting before noon if we wanted any chance of actually finishing a game.

I'm not sure how it happened - but they actually ended pretty early last time.

Hey - as an idea - how about we set an end time - and most VP wins at that point if we haven't fulfilled victory conditions.  Maybe like 11 PM in this case.

Better familiarity with the game was one aspect.  We all had a better idea of what the general flow of the game was, so it didn't take as long.

Also, setting an end time of 11:00PM works for me.

I'm fine w/ an end time, but I'm not thrilled with the idea of ending at midnight and starting late.  One fairly quick game obviously doesn't guarantee the rest will be, especially if we're looking at 6 players?  I'd be willing to bet that we won't be anywhere where near done w/ a six player game if we start at 3.  Tongue

Heh, then again it's B's game @ his place.  I know I know I need to buy furniture... Wink

I had the impression we were targetting 3:00, with a plan to quit at some pre-determined time (e.g., 11:00).

If we decided to go with teams, that might speed things up as well.

Kay, 3 it is then.

Thinking on it though (and it's been a while plus my memory is as we all know, made of balsa wood) we shouldn't let teammates sit next to each other (since some stuff goes clockwise).

Or if we wind up w/ an odd number of players, Kris and Pat'll just have to actually treat each other like normal opponents... >Smiley

Good game.  Overall, I think the partners thing worked well.

I'm totally for trying out the leader things next game.

Let's definitely start earlier next time.

Partners - agreed, was good times - wouldn't want to do it every time, but once in a while is fun.

Start Time - word.  I think about 8 hrs seems right for a game - so next time starting noon-ish would probably be good - particular if on the weekend-end.

Optional Rules - Actually - me and Pat discussed this after game - I think the leader thing is a good idea that will honestly present only minimal additional complication (which can partially be assuaged by you lazy bitches reading the rules in advance - http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ti3support.html), but ditching domain counters might shorten the game considerably.  If you think about it, if your first few turns were almost entirely, drop-take actions, the first few turns would fly by.  It would probably also start the blood-thirstiness faster, as their would be less time spent colonizing neutral space.  Overall, I really like Domain Counters, but if we are short on time, and yanking them would mean saving like an hour+ (which I am betting) - we might want to ditch them.

I've certainly gotten screwed on the planetary stuff.  It seriously slowed me down in the game where I played Jol-Nar, however as an element they can dramatically affect the game strategy.  Notably in yesterday's game, if the wormhole had not shown up on Nalroth's world, that pipeline would have been much more useful for TAC and I.  As it was, instead of having to slog his way across the board to fight someone, or (which might have been preferrable) to attack Safetypup as closest neighbor, he got to jump over and threaten me and TAC and numbers girl.  That was a pretty fortuitious thing for Nalroth.

So, I like the chaos they introduce into the game, but am willing to try it without them too.

And, while I might be the only one to hold this view, I'd also like to try a game where the worlds and dead spaces are put down at random (i.e., upside down and then turned over when everything is in place).  Sure, it's going to screw people sometimes, but I like the variables.  It helps keep the game from getting predictable.  Chaos good.  All hail lord Arioch.

We started at 4PM and ran until 12AM without finishing this time, so I think we need to plan for at least nine hours.
