What would people think if I converted the message boards into a drupal site?

  Just kicking the idea around...

I have absolutely NO problem with that.
(That may be because I have no idea what you are talking about, but I thought you'd appreciate positive feedback  Smiley  )

Hehe.  It means the boards would look more like www.scylla.org than the bbs style that they are now.  So we'd get threaded comments, I could put up static game pages easier, and it'd make management easier for me.

Downsides are that drupal doesn't present new comments as nicely as the current simple machines site does.

How much more work is the current setup to maintain?

I kinda fear change as well, but if we are talking about massive amounts of time/energy going into the current system as opposed to drupal, change away.

Are there issues with how things are now?  If not, I wouldn't change them.  A bulletein board method presents a relatively straightforward way to hold discussions.  I've never liked the LiveJournal/Drupal/Blog way of holding discussions.  More to the point, they're journals.  They're meant for mostly one-way communications with occasional comments and small back-and-forth ideas.  Message boards are much more discussion based.

I got a question. Are the boards broken or don't do what you would like them to do then if the answer is no then why fix it.

The present boards are bad for mixing in with content.  That's not bad at all on the COH boards, but since the Augusta boards are kind of tied into the game it's a little awkward.  Having a method for integrating certain game notes into threaded discussion boards has it's appeal.

Also, I'm a lot more adept at handling drupal, it's what I do at home and at work Smiley

Mambo apparently has some code in it to directly integrate SM, so maybe I'll look at that.  But nothing in the next few weeks for sure.
