November 17th, 2003 - The Hope Diamond is stolen from the Smithsonian.  The thief somehows pulls the diamond to himself, shattering its bullet-resistant glass case and covering onlookers with shards, then leaps from the bannister, down two stories and disappears into the crowd.  The thief is described as having a dark tan complexion, long black hair, and as wearing some sort of black formal wear.  Police are baffled.

November 20th, 2003 - The criminal now dubbed "The Museum Bandit" has continued the theft of national treasures.  In less than 24 hours, he has succeeded in stealing the Rosetta Stone from the British Museum in London, the Mona Lisa from the Louvre in Paris, and an urn of memorial ashes from the Aushwitz concentration camp.  The description of the culprit roughly matches the visual identification of the thief responsible for the theft of the Hope Diamond from the Smithsonian museum in Washington, DC.

Although no one was hurt during the attack on the Louvre or Aushwitz, several onlookers were severely lacerated when the glass display case surrounding the Rosetta Stone exploded in front of them.  The bandit reputedly flew out of the skyline with the stone hovering behind him.  Government officials insist that some sort wire device or similar technology was used to accomplish the trick, but are still investigating.

Several works of art in the Louvre were also vandalized, most notable among them Michaelangelo's David - which had the word "Thoth" carved into it.  The security system was severely damaged during the theft and the security forces around the museum have been strengthened.

The motive for the theft is not clear at this time.  Some experts have speculated that this may be some sort of new, radical form of terrorism, or perhaps a publicity stunt by some other sort of malcontented organization.
