I'm a llama!

I've decided that I'm going to start reviewing a few series at a time so that people might figure out what they want to watch.  Others who have seen things I haven't should feel free to do the same.

Today I review:

Gasaraki (yeah, I've been spelling it wrong)

In my initial attempt, I made it through the first 6 discs of the series and somehow derailed on the last two discs.  This isn't a reflection on the series so much as I think that it is a reflection on my not having any time + ADD.
The series itself is very cool.  Because shojo ruled the industry for so long, I found that the series that I ended up collecting were those that balanced shojo and shonin.  Basically, it has something for everyone, I'm trying to stay away from gender profiling by using industry terms, though I realize the hypocrisy in that shojo means girl, and shonin means boy.  Regardless, it has love story elements and mechs (they call them TA, which is short for tactical armor), politics and family conflict.  It's one of those series where I can't tell if it's based on Japanese Myth, or just really well crafted.

Saber Marionette J:

I really like this series, but you have to get over a few things with it.  The first hurdle, and this is a really big one, is that they get genetics and DNA completely totally wrong.  The premise of the story is that humans colonize another planet, persumably after fucking earth beyond repair.  They have a less than stellar landing in which only like 5 people survive and they are all guys.  In order to save the species, they resort to cloning.  Here is where the story gets away from fact.  According to this tale, they can create near infinite genetic diversity from just the 5 people through superior cloning techniques...but they can't create women.  I guess guys are YY chromosomes or something.   So, if you can get past that little flaw in logic... oh yeah, and the main character Otaru, who is otherwise a good protagonist seems to have Ranma/Tenchi syndrome... other than that, the series is excellent.  BTW with the not having women, they have them some robots in female form called Marionettes.  Saber Marionettes are combat ready chick robots.

So there it is.
