heh... you posted this as I posted mine.  I like the last one; it goes a lot more deeply into the different combinations than I did.

I've been reading the comments on shield mitigation online.  I realize the point is to make the space battles epic and to reduce the effectiveness of mindless micromanaging (and it is shocking how many people have been trained to think focus fire=strategery by RTS games.)  And if you think about real battles (naval and tank battles being the best parallel), while sometimes focusing fire can be very effective, generally, it isn't done, and for very good reason: If you're focusing your fire on one target, every other ship is free to concentrate on shooting at you.  What is it, like 99% of ammunition in infantry battles is spent sending suppressive fire?  You shoot at everyone, to make them keep their heads down or to manouver rater than concentrate on firing.  I'd like to see them model that a little better.  They say shield mitigation is caused by shields in the hull adjusting tot he incoming fire.  If doing that reduced your accuracy/dps, then we'd clearly have a case where total focus-firing loses to general suppressive fire accented by limited focus on specific targets.

I wonder if I should suggest it to Stardock?
