So if you're reading this it means you're interested. If you haven't heard of the game go here. So, Saturday. During the day we can either play online or gather for a lan party. If we gather for a lan we can share copies with those who don't have one. I've got up to 4, possibly 5 computers that will run the game. 2 desktops, 2 Macbook Pros and 1 Dell laptop from work. Thoughts?

The way the game works if we go over 4 people we're going to have to split into 2 teams and do PvP.
Personally, i'm okay with this. The worst situation is if we get 5 people.

I wouldn't mind joining in, but I'd need to play from here. Also, I've played the demo once, but not the full game yet, so if there's going to be a balance of power in how teams are arranged, I'm somebody's handicap...

So provided that the technology works (if we can get people at a lan on board with a remote player) that works for me. Whatever team you're on can borrow mics and use Ventrilo for communication.

I'm not exactly Mr. awesome RTS guy btw, plus I probably won't have played quite as much by Sat as some of you (oncall ftw). So yeah if we do pvp I'll be a bit of a shortbus player. BTW... how's five players worse than seven? Or are you just assuming we won't hit seven?

I've been studying the game, but i've only played 4 times. 2 of those were restarts, the 2nd pair were wins. So i'm trying to learn fast but i'm not nearly as practiced as some of the people I see posting on the official boards.
I don't think we're going to get more than 5. 6 were on the original email, and I don't know of anyone else who is interested. So yeah, i'm assuming we won't hit 7 people.

I saw maps for 10 players, so maybe we can still play against the computer 5 people vs 5 computers. Or we can set the computer to 'unfair', and put it at a numerical disadvantage. Or we could play teams.
Overall, I think I've played the game more than anyone else, and I have a whopping 12 hours of gametime. So I don't think there will be a huge skill difference. As long as everybody's gone through the basic tutorial and remembers to make that first free cap ship ASAP, we'll be pretty good to go.
If I remember properly, the only thing about an internet vs a lan game is that we can't re-use serial numbers. If everyone has their own copy of the game it shouldn't be a big deal.

My only worry with a us vs unfair computer is that the player closest to the unfair computer will get NOMed. But that's an acceptable risk, I suppose.

That's a good point. I hadn't thought about upping the CPU difficulty while lowering the count.
My preference is to do co-op, so I think that makes the most sense to me. Hard might be enough for us to deal with.

I would rather do co-op as well.

Okay, if you're interested and can play get on AIM at noon on Saturday.
We'll run an internet game. This means everyone needs their own copy of the game. Thankfully, they can be downloaded.
I will be on voice chat during the game using Ventrilo. I run a Ventrilo server on buffy.webslayer.net. Default port. Even if you don't have a microphone it's advantageous to be on it so you can listen.
If you want to hang out lan-style, folks are welcome to come over to my house. I can't relocate large portions of my office to the kitchen, but I should be able to squeeze 3-4 people into my office. If you're going to do this, tell me on Friday. I'll need some time to prepare.

Game speed, uh, I have no idea. I've left those at the default in my games. I'm open to suggestions. What do people think we should run at? The duration will probably be a large chunk of time, i'd guess at 4-6 hours. And i'd err on the long side. Maybe i'll be wrong and we'll get spanked by the CPUs

Maybe i'll be wrong and we'll get spanked by the CPUs Hrmmm. So can you pre-form alliances? I hope we can make all the AI's form an alliance / team, or, well, it'll be pretty unfairly easy. I don't remember if you guys said that was possible or not.

I would like to play, but if I did it would probably have to be an earlier one, as I'll need to start getting ready around 4 for dinner with the family. But I can start any time (beginning at 10am).

I'd be interested if there's an open slot. It was mentioned that I'd need some kind of VOIP software, but I forget the name.
