The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson.

This is an alternate history book with a premise based on the Black Death killing 99% of Europe's population.  I've read this book, and am interested in what others think.

I've heard good things about that.

I nominate Death Star by Michael Reaves and Steve Perry.

I am sure this book will be full of funny stories of Darth Vader using Force Grip to compel contractors to not run over budget.
Other fun topics to be discussed in this book include:
How many bathrooms is this thing going to need?
Do we really need the thermal exhaust port?
Are we breaking any OSHA law with no safety rails around the docking bay floor elevators?

I'd like to re-add a nomination from last session:

Halting State by Charlie Stross

As a Hugo award winner, I think this would be a good pick.

It's been nominated for a Hugo, but hasn't won (yet). Wink

The reason I didn't re-nominate it myself is that it's written in second-person, and that flips some people out.  So, y'all be warned before voting.  Here's the prologue and first three chapters (on Charlie's site).

That is definitely different, but i'm sure it will provoke discussion.

It's Tuesday! What time does nomination close?  Do we only have three contenders because people are interested in them, or because of procrastination?

I want to read someone else's suggestion this time, so I'm refraining from nominating anything.  Smiley

How about opening up the voting tomorrow morning and closing by Friday? That would give any potential stragglers time to submit a nomination.
