'Nothing personal.'

September 30th, 2001

Center for Arcane Studies - Thanks to the heart (actually still unclear if that is what it actually was) of Charon that was supplied to Eyes-Of-The-Spider, the Abyssal Spirit known as Auralite has been banished again to the Abyss.  The exact nature of the beings that Charon created (his "Flaws"), and the nature of his work will be studied very heavily over the next several months.  Any relevant results will be posted.

Intelligence Analyses - No traces remained of subject Samantha Syn, she disappeared without explanation from the sight during cleanup.  It is unclear whether she ceased to physically exist, transfered herself to another plane of reality, or got up and walked away (although the latter should have left more trace evidence then it did).

Later investigation with the handful of witnesses which remained (9 total survived the incident) indicate that Subject Charon (who we still do not have a clear file on, due to his lack of fingerprints, DNA traces, and only fragmented real name - "Tom") came to the township of Sun City two months prior to the incident claiming to be a historian studying the grave markings in the area, and kept mainly to himself.  Samantha arrived two weeks later, and one week beyond that the two became involved.  All witnesses give extremely negative impressions of Samantha, and seemed to have an irrational blame of her for all aspects of the incident.  Witnesses opinions have ranged from demoness to "slut".  Her presence in the town was clearly making people uneasy, to the point that they had begun discussing asking her to leave, by force if necessary, just prior (3 days) to the incident.

Investigation also indicates that for an unclear amount of time (probably less then two weeks), Charon had settled in one of the farms just outside of Forest City, and had dwelled there with Samantha in bonds for at least two days prior to the incident while performing experiments on the family that lived there.  His purpose is unclear.

A psychological profile is being slowly assembled for Charon, although his apparent lack of identification, trace files, and real name make identification almost impossible.  It is unclear whether Charon's obvious mental condition was due to an overexposure to Samantha, a previous mental condition, overuse of magic or a combination of all three.

Perception Management - Perception Management has ruled that it is easier to cover the incident as a new set of "ghost towns" then to actively explain the deaths.  The majority of the residents were highly insular and had local family only.  There is, therefore, few to miss them outside of the immediate area.  For those that do still have family, remains are being prepped and cover stories generated as appropriate to explain their death individually.  In two cases, memory alteration of loved ones proved necessary.  The remaining 9 witnesses will undergo heavy mental re-engineering at the Perception Management facility in New Mexico, and will be relocated there and placed under heavy surveilance.  They are still being evaluated for suitability for hire to the FBAA.  Unfortunately, as one of the highest magnitude events that the FBAA has ever needed to cover, the Charon Incident will tie up many of the Perception Management Unit's most valuable resources, including most of its prime psychics, for upwards of the next month.  Please be extra careful to keep all actions clean while this is going on to keep their burden to a minimum.  It is also highly likely that at least minimal urban legend will be generated as a result of these towns suddenly disappearing.

Gallateans have an affect on the psyches of those they are around.

On most people it inspires fear/unsettlement. On a small sampling of the population, it seems those with ties to dark powers. It acts to cause a powerful attraction for the entity.

I am still researching the subject.

Is this something we should be worried about?

Any time one of us spends too long in one place, it can cause ... problems.

I meant should WE be worried.  Should WE avoid you?  For that matter is it even safe to keep your kind in the building?

Mister Albrecht-san has put some kind of spell on my wing of the building that prevents the disquiet.  I have also not noticed the usual reactions from you all, so perhaps your supernatural essences give you some measure of resistance.

I believe that the "disquiet" she causes can affect us. When I first met her I was affected by it, however the effect was dispelled the second I entered her room. I do think that we are liable to be much more resistant to her effect than are Sleepers.

As far as her being safe to be around. She doesn't have a known penchant for blood.

I am going to keep an open mind, I suggest you do the same.

All I wanted was some sort of acceptable explanation which I feel I've received.

All a matter of perspective.  In as much as there are times Machico's presence can cause problems (and we'll therefore try not to let her stay in one place too long while on missions), I doubt many of us want to be around Katey should her more wolfish nature get out of control.  Likewise, I'd imagine that few of us want to be around if/when Tobias has gone too long without sustenance.
